How Much Does a 5kW Solar System Cost? SMA Sunny Boy Buyer's Checklist

Before the checklist, a quick bias disclosure: I buy solar equipment for a living. I don't design it, and I don't install it. I've been a procurement manager at a 22-person renewable-energy company for six years, and I manage an equipment budget of roughly $180,000 a year. Step 5: Don't force battery backup into every outage profile

If a customer loses power for a couple of hours a few times a year, a battery may never provide enough value to cover its cost. The useful question is about depth: What load has to run, and for how long? For several days of outage on a large household load, a generator is often the technically honest solution. I've recommended generators even when it meant a smaller battery order. A vendor who says everything needs a battery is not respecting the difference between a power cut and a disaster.

For SMA-based backup, stick with storage products that SMA has tested. Step 6: Verify the after-install support chain before final payment
